Mostly Press Branding.
One of the things I did today (besides trying to finalise a date for a possible extra Mostly Comedy before the end of the year with a very exciting line-up; more on that if it transpires) was write a press release for this month's show.
Preparations for October's gig have been frustrating as we had to change the date twice; once due to a shift in one of the line-up's availability (which was no trouble at all) and then again thanks to a double-booking at our venue (which was when things started to get complicated, with us having to move the show to The Market Theatre as a one-off). Either way, these alterations meant we had to process a reasonably large number of refunds and accept a drop in our capacity of fifty, consequently affecting the potential revenue from the event, which has been budgeted to suit our usual venue's size; it's niggling to have the date sell well, then lose seats, then sell them again resulting in an ultimate drop in numbers, particularly when you'd already attempted to solve the problem once; it's complex and boring equal measure.
See below for today's press release; it's not my finest work, but it'll do the job.

Press Release – 06.10.17
mostly comedy
a monthly comedy club,
at the market theatre in hitchin (for October only)
Hitchin’s
comic duo DOGGETT & EPHGRAVE celebrate
the ninth anniversary of their club Mostly Comedy on 26th October by
hosting a cracking line-up at The Market Theatre, headed by actress, comedian
and QI & Have I Got News For You panelist KATY BRAND.
Mostly Comedy was established nine years ago by
Glyn Doggett & David Ephgrave, who presented their first gig at The George
on Bucklersbury on 23rd October 2008. Since then, the club has gone
from strength to strength, outgrowing four venues across the town (taking in
runs at the Edinburgh Fringe & in London’s West End) before reaching its
current home of the Sun Hotel in January 2016 (except for this month, when it confusingly
returns to the Market Theatre as a one-off).
From its humble beginnings, Mostly Comedy has
played host to some of the biggest names in comedy and TV, including Phill
Jupitus, Rory Bremner, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Paul Daniels, Sean Hughes,
Katherine Ryan, Reginald D Hunter, Josh Widdicombe, Arthur Smith, Isy Suttie,
John Thomson, Sara Pascoe, Ardal O’Hanlon, Aisling Bea, Kevin Eldon, James
Acaster, Norman Lovett, Henning Wehn and many more.
Back to
October’s line-up:
Katy
Brand has led a varied career, taking in sitcoms and straight acting, writing
novels and appearing in Hollywood films. She began perfoming with the Oxford
Revue whilst studying Theology at Oxford University, writing and taking part in
comedies, musicals and straight plays. After graduating, she worked in TV
production for five years, before deciding to return to performance in 2004.
She started on the London open mic scene, then took her first solo show to Edinburgh
in 2005, which led to the Channel 4 Comedy
Lab pilot ‘Slap’, which ITV went
on to commission as ‘Katy Brand’s Big Ass
Show’. This ran for three series, winning Brand the prize for Best Female
Comedy Breakthrough Artist at the 2008 British Comedy Awards.
In
2010, she was cast in the movie ‘Nanny
McPhee and the Big Bang’, where she met the actress and screenplay writer
Emma Thompson, who commissioned her to write her own film script, which is
currently in development with Ridley Scott’s production company Scott Free. She
has also appeared in all manner of TV comedy series, including ‘Peep Show’, ‘Hyperdrive’, ‘QI’, ‘Have I Got News For You’, ‘Argumental’ and ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’.
Singe,
comedian and self-described ‘Übermeister of Lounge’ FRANK SANAZI joins Brand on the bill. He is popular on both the
comedy and cabaret circuit, with The Scotsman describing him as ‘a brilliant and unsettling blend of Frank Sinatra and Adolf Hitler’ and the Evening Standard as ‘comedy gold’; those who are easily offended, take note!
The ‘intriguing and memorable’ (Chortle) comic PAUL SWEENEY completes the line-up. The show is emceed DOGGETT & EPHGRAVE and takes place at The Market Theatre - a different venue to originally advertised
- with doors opening at 8:45pm and the first act on at 9:00pm. Tickets are £11
and are available in advance via www.mostlycomedy.co.uk, where you can also
