Mostly Thomson & Son.

One thing I did today (besides a jeans-wash) was edit a press release for next week's impromptu extra Hitchin Mostly Comedy with John Thomson.

We had to move it to Hitchin as it was selling poorly in St Albans and we wanted to preserve the booking so no-one missed out. It seems we made the right choice as nearly seventy tickets were sold in the first day compared to seven in St Albans across a couple of weeks.

See below for the press release (and then book if you're feeling lucky):

The duo behind Hitchin’s successful ten-year-old monthly comedy club Mostly Comedy (DOGGETT & EPHGRAVE) are delighted to present a last-minute addition to their autumn season, on 4th October, featuring cult comic legend JOHN THOMSON.

John has enjoyed a career in film, television, theatre and radio spanning over two decades. He first hit our screens whilst still at college, providing voices for the cult classic Spitting Image. After winning the Perrier award in 1992 with Steve Coogan, he went on to write and appear in the Paul Calf video diaries: Three Fights, Two Weddings and a Funeral (a BAFTA winner) and Coogan’s Run; later appearing in Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge and Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle. He also played the pub landlord Ken in Men Behaving Badly and a multitude of characters in BBC 2’s The Fast Show. Nice!

His other TV credits include: The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, Stunts on Button Moon, Dangerous Lady, The World of Lee Evans, Playing the Field, Station Jim, Sir Alan Sugar in The Applicants (Rose d’Or winner), Murder in Mind and Coronation Street.

John is properly best known for his portrayal of Pete Gifford in the multi-award-winning Cold Feet, for which he was nominated for best actor at the Comedy Awards. His film credits include 24-Hour Party People, Up 'n' Under, The Man Who Knew Too Little (with Bill Murray), The English Patient, and Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Welsh comic JENNY COLLIER joins Thomson on the bill. Jenny launched her stand-up career in 2010; since then, she’s performed in Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland and Australia, where she won the Percy Award for most seats sold at her venue - over 1900 tickets - during the Adelaide Fringe. She’s written for BBC Radio 4’s ‘The News Quiz’, Huffington Post and Glamour Magazine, and in 2016 she performed her debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe to critical acclaim.

The gig is emceed by the “polished, natural comedians” (Camden Fringe Voyeur) DOGGETT & EPHGRAVE, with the first act on at 8:00pm. Tickets can be bought in advance via www.mostlycomedy.co.uk, where you can also book for 18th October’s show with Spitting Image’s KATE ROBBINS and musical comic JAY FOREMAN.
