Strictly Come Tweeting (26.09.15)

Today, in a fit of laziness, I'll use my blog to document my tweets about this evening’s Strictly Come Dancing; they need to be preserved for future generations (which implies they’re not already available online). The reason for my indolence is valid: I spent the day walking around Buckingham Palace – and yet I’d rather write about trashy TV than flashy Buck House. This is due to tiredness. I’m sure I’ll cover my regal exploits tomorrow, unless I visit a more opulent residence in the meantime. That’s enough thesaurus swallowing for the evening; here are the tweets: 6:16pm: Cue the on-beat hand clapping. # Strictly 6:19pm: Shaddap You Face and Dance with Me. # Strictly 6:23pm: According to Alan Dedicoat, Daniel O'Donnell doesn't just sing; he entertains as well. # Strictly 6:27pm: What Aliona's wearing is technically not a dress. Just sayin'. # Strictly 6:28pm: Aliona's dress doubles as a car...

Strictly Come Tweeting (05.09.15)

I've mentioned my slightly out-of-character love for Strictly Come Dancing previously on this blog. For someone who approached three years' worth of daily dance lessons at Drama School with fear, loathing and dread, I get surprisingly into it. I'm not sure what lures me in, though it may be the skimpy outfits (primarily the tightness of Anton du Bec's trousers). I tuned into the launch show yesterday, with a cup of tea by my side and a cat on my lap; I know how to spend my Saturday evenings.Today, in the interests of posterity / laziness, I thought I'd share the tweets I posted as I watched; it fills internet space, my loves, it fills internet space. I'm likely to tweet about # SCD for a bit. Apologies to the uninterested. It won't last long. (7:16pm) It's clever, because they're dancing in the street to Dancing in the Street. # SCD (7:17pm) No Bowie? No Jagger? No Kylie? # SCD (7:17pm) I know Win...

Everyone's a Critic.

Every Strictly Come Dancing audience member that groans after the judges give their feedback is a professional choreographer. That must be the case. How else would they have a sufficient understanding of what Craig, Darcey, Len and Bruno are about to say to boo before they’ve finished their sentence? They’re all experts. Either that, or they’ve watched too many pantos through the years. I sometimes wonder if they’ve even seen the show before. It took me minutes to spot the pattern to Craig Revel Horwood’s comments. He starts with the bad and ends with the good. It’s not hard to get to grips with. What these on-beat-clapping mouth-breathers don’t realise is you seldom get positive feedback in the performing arts industry. A director or choreographer will usually only tell you when you’ve got something wrong, not when you’ve got something right. You work at such a lick, there’s little time for affirmation. If you get no notes, you're doing well. That said, I know...
