We’re now all set for tomorrow’s Broadway Theatre Mostly Comedy. I met Glyn briefly this evening to run through our material and to discuss a few bits of admin related to the show. We’re both looking forward to it - and while I would have liked it to have sold a little better than it has ( I feel it's been poorly advertised) it will still be a good night; it will be nice to run the gig in a theatre and to make the most of the tech set-up and size of the space to give the event a sense of theatrics that can be missed in the slightly more ad hoc nature of our usual venue.   If all goes to plan, the space should do mine and Glyn’s stuff a good service; our act always works best when the projections are big, and in this instance they’ll be bigger than ever, as we’re using the theatre’s cinema projector to throw the image onto the cyc at the back of the stage. Never before will the tiny details in our slides have been so massive; hopefully, it will make for a good reaction...

Yesterday, I met Glyn briefly to go over business related to March’s Mostly Comedy at the Broadway Cinema & Theatre in Letchworth. The gig is less than five weeks away and we’re pretty much up-to-speed. It should prove to be a nice optional extra to our Hitchin shows, with a gentle nod to our occasional   - for want of a better word - upgraded Summer Specials. Every so often, we’ve staged a version of the club at a bigger venue to wherever we were based at the time, which have always been a successful, slightly posher alternative to the usual gig. This will be the biggest room to date, in keeping with the club’s gradual growth over the last eight years, and the fact it’s in a theatre (instead of the studios and ballrooms of the past) should make for a well-earned, slick, higher-grade event. (No pressure.) There are a few challenges. The main one is seeing if the fact the venue has only just been reworked from a cinema into a theatre...

Today, I booked another London ‘Mostly David Ephgrave’ date for 30th January next year. I decided to go for the Etcetera Theatre this time, as it’s a great space to play and has a projector rigged too. It all works out quite well, as the date falls nicely between now and my show at the Leicester Comedy Festival in February , and gives me another chance to invite industry people to see it in London. It would be nice to get some interest and support out of it, before I start getting my head around what my new show will be; I’m bored of doing everything by myself. This always seems to be my approach when I panic about what to do next: I book in other dates and plan new things to do. It’s not a bad by-product of my uncertainty, as it keeps the ball rolling, but the downside is I sometimes end up putting too much in the diary.
